Totnes Castle

According to the Totnes Brutus Stone, legend has it that the British people have their origins in the town. Numerous heritage attractions sit around this ancient Devon market town like the great Guildhall on Ramparts Walk. Historic landmarks are best explored along the 1.5 mile long Town Trail which starts at the Town Mill, a restored Victorian water wheel with Information centre and exhibition, old mill machinery and rural archive upstairs. Visit the Dartington Hall Estate just outside Totnes with year round live events, festivals, exhibitions and spectacular grounds and gardens or take a steam railway ride between Totnes and Buckfastleigh. Visitors can also take a tour the ruined Berry Pomeroy Castle (English Heritage) set in a wooded valley or visit Totnes Castle which is one of the best preserved examples of its kind in England.

The Totnes Museum of Costume, Fashion and Textiles has a collection of period costumes on display and Totnes is home to the Woodlands Theme Park which is the largest family theme park in the region, with a zoo farm and an extensive variety of rides and attractions for visitors of every age. Don't miss a visit to the Totnes Museum housed within an Elizabethan Merchant's House. Town events include the Totnes & District Agricultural Show with stunt displays, animal shows and vintage cars exhibitions.

If you are planning a family day out, visit the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm with a wide range of rare and unusual native British animals including red squirrels, field mice, birds of prey and pygmy goats. There is also an onsite cafe where you can enjoy a cream tea and watch the steam trains go by.
