Teignmouth to Shaldon Ferry

Hop aboard possibly England's oldest passenger ferry service, the Teignmouth to Shaldon Ferry running daily across the Teign estuary, making it easy for visitors based in Shaldon to enjoy the many attractions of Teignmouth just across the water. Dogs, bikes and pushchairs are all welcome on the passenger ferry. Many walkers use the service to rejoin the coast path. Ferries across the River Teign have been traced back to 1296. The link has always been an important one, and a swift connection as opposed to the alternative - a 14 mile journey by road between Shaldon and Teignmouth via Newton Abbot!

Shaldon Wildlife Trust

Set within an acre of natural woodland on the hillside just above Shaldon, the Shaldon Wildlife Trust is home to some of the most endangered species in the world. Animals include mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. The Trust's exhibits are designed entirely around the animals to make sure that they're living in as natural a habitat as possible. The zoo is located close to the seafront and has some fantastic sea views.

Apart from rare and interesting animals you'll also find native Devonshire flora and fauna at the zoo, which the trust is dedicated to protecting. These plants help to encourage local wildlife into the zoo, the butterfly garden being a perfect example. The plants in this garden naturally attract many butterfly species, such as red admiral, painted lady and common blue, as well as the unusual Jersey tiger moth, the elephant moth and the hummingbird hawkmoth. Shaldon Wildlife Trust is open every day except Christmas and Boxing Day.
