Lea Hill Cottages

Lea Hill Cottages

In search of peaceful retreats in those hidden gem corners and pockets of Britain? Many are discovering the beauty of Devon and Somerset’s glorious Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a relatively unknown landscape on the Devon and Somerset borders just inland from the Jurassic Coast.

Rich in wildlife, the landscape is one of steep ridges, valleys, springs and high plateau featuring quaint villages like Membury in Devon. Rare plants and species can be seen here like the beautiful but endangered Marsh Fritillary butterfly.

Cycling, walking and horse riding are all popular across the area and you’ll find some superb eco-friendly holiday experiences and the finest locally sourced Devon and Somerset produce here!

Where to Stay

Base yourself in the Devon area of the Blackdown Hills for a spectacular coast and country holiday. Beautiful Lea Hill Country Cottages are set within 8 acres of shared grounds and gardens, walking distance from Membury village and a short drive from Axminster and the Jurassic Coast. The cottages sleep 2 and 4, and sit deep in the countryside (with fabulous dark skies), yet are just minutes from bustling Axminster and River Cottage.

Close Up – Membury Village

The pretty village of Membury, a short stroll away, is a classic example of one of the Blackdown Hills’ hidden gem villages. This English village is one of the few to still celebrate Oak Apple Day in May! A number of ancient iron age forts feature in the area including Membury Castle in the village. This south eastern tip of the Blackdown Hills is also renowed for its stunning nature reserves including Hawkswood and Thurlbear Wood both ideally close to dog friendly Lea Hill Cottages.
