Industrial Heritage Heartland

Served by South Yorkshire’s iron and coal fields, the triangular area between Huddersfield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Wakefield and Sheffield has a rich industrial heritage stretching back to the medieval era. This is Yorkshire’s coal, iron, quarrying, textiles and steel working heartland where coal and iron barons made fortunes. Sites such as Wentworth Castle Gardens where the money makers lived also feature on the trail. Find out more on the Route’s website – many fascinating heritage steelworks, forges, industrial hamlets and industrial museums are showcased on the trail.
