Plumpton Racecourse

Market town Burgess Hill in the heart of the Sussex Countryside sits midway between the South Downs/ Brighton and the High Weald AONB. Benefitting from fast rail links to London (journey time is less than one hour), the town is perfect for coast and country touring. A wealth of walking and cycling opportunities are avaialble in the local area, and famous Sussex gardens and castles sit close by. Plumpton Racecourse, a top Sussex National Hunt Jump racecourse is just to the south east, whilst Hickstead, the home of British show jumping is just to the north west of the market town. First class Burgess Hill Golf Centre with Championship 9 hole course makes the town an ideal location for a golfing break.

Things to Do & See

The town centre is largely pedestrianised and contains an attractive scene of independent shops and central parks plus a Tourist Information Point on Church Walk. A great time to visit is during the annual June Summer Festival and country spaces including Batchelors Farm and Bedelands Farm Nature Reserve surround the town. Just south of Burgess Hill near Pyecombe sit the two famous Jack and Jill Windmills - Jill Windmill is open to the public with onsite visitor centre, souvenir shop and tearooms.

Essential amenities and entertainment centres all feature including a large theatre with cafe bar, ample central parking, a Leisure centre with large pool and sports facilities and the covered Market Place Shopping Centre. Burgess Hill retains its market town roots, hosting twice weekly markets. A good choice of world cuisine restaurants and take-aways are also available in the town centre from Italian to Mexican and Chinese.

With the South Downs National Park to the south and the High Weald AONB to the north, Burgess Hill is ideal for a walking or cycling holiday. Famous gardens just a few minutes' drive away include award-winning Borde Hill, a mere 15 minute drive away. High Beeches, the Bluebell Railway and Sheffield Park are all just 20 minutes from Burgess Hill. You'll also find a many picturesque rural Sussex villages around Burgess Hill like Cuckfield and Bolney brimming with fine old inns serving fine food and ales.

Getting Here & Where to Stay

Burgess Hill is easily reached by car off the M25 ring road, onto the M23/A23 and Burgess Hill Station (Southern) offers fast links to and from London and Brighton.
