Leyburn's Weekly Friday Market

Sample the finest Yorkshire Dales local produce and purchase unique crafts and gifts at traditional Yorkshire Dales markets in and around the National Park. Many of the Dales Farmers' Markets are FARMA Certified, and you'll find some famous traditional street markets amongst the Dales market selection at Settle, Skipton and Richmond, all major attractions in themselves.

Located in the heart of ancient market towns and villages around historic market crosses and in beautiful Georgian Market Places, many of Yorkshire Dales markets received market charters in the medieval era. As well as browsing and sampling the Yorkshire Dales' finest food and fayre available from daily, weekly or monthly markets, you'll also find a host of unique independent shops and craft outlets surrounding Market Places in all the beautiful market towns and villages detailed below.

Bedale

Bedale Market Day is every Tuesday. A small picturesque market town, Bedale gained its market charter in 1251. The market cross in the town centre dates from the 14th century and the town is mentioned in the Domesday Book, booming later in the Georgian era. Today Bedale's weekly Tuesday market features mostly local traders living within a few miles of the town.

Grassington

Grassington Farmers' Market takes place every third Sunday of the month, and this FARMA Certified farmers’ market really is a showcase of the best local Yorkshire Dales food and drink. Market stalls fill Grassington’s pretty village centre from 9am to 3pm.

Harrogate

Harrogate Farmers’ Market takes place on the second Thursday of each month. Market stalls are located around Cambridge Street in the town centre from 9am to 3pm. Much of the produce on sale is locally sourced ranging from fresh meats, fish, fruit and vegetables to breads and preserves all in a beautiful spa town setting on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.

Otley & Knaresborough

Otley hosts a superb farmers’ market on Market Place on the last Sunday of each month with stalls running from 9am to 1pm. Knaresborough Farmers’ Market takes place on the third Sunday of each month from 9am to 2pm.

Hawes

Hawes hosts a street market every week on Tuesdays. Indoor and outdoor market stalls fill the town centre selling a range of local produce and there’s a real carnival atmosphere.

Sedbergh

Sedbergh market is weekly on Wednesdays, with stalls located on the Joss Lane central car park near the tourist information centre. Artisan breads and a range of local produce stalls are on offer, with market stalls operating from 8.30am until the late afternoon. Don’t miss Sedbergh’s big Charter Market Fair held on a Saturday annually in mid August.

Ingleton & Bentham

Ingleton’s weekly market is on Friday and is one of several superb traditional Dales markets in the Craven area of the Dales. Market stalls are surrounded by an interesting mix of independent shops and arts/ crafts outlets. Nearby Bentham village also has a weekly market day every Wednesday.

Skipton

A flagship Yorkshire market town, Skipton Market days are on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, with stalls lining the award-winning High Street from 9am to 5pm. The town also hosts a FARMA Certified farmers’ market on the first Sunday of every month, 9am to 3pm, centred around the Canal Basin (High Street in July).

Settle

Wonderful market town Settle in Upper Ribblesdale is famed for its weekly markets every Tuesday, and its great selection of independent shops. A market charter was granted to Settle in 1248 – this is a Yorkshire market town with a rich heritage. Market stalls are located around Market Place up towards Constitution Hall, around Church Street and behind the Shambles. Home baking, fresh meats, fashion, fancy goods and dairy produce are all on offer, with further craft, cake and jewellery stalls to be found inside Victoria Hall. Settle also hosts a farmers’ market on the third Sunday of every month.

Leyburn & Middleham

Lower Wensleydale’s market town gem Leyburn is also famed for its weekly markets taking place every Friday. The weekly market is a real traditional local produce market bustling with visitors. Market stalls sell everything from handmade chocolates to fine cheeses, preserves and gluten free cakes. The town also hosts a farmers’ market on the fourth Saturday of every month.
Just 2 miles from Leyburn and home to a magnificent medieval castle, Middleham in Wensleydale hosts its weekly market every Sunday.

Masham

Walking and real ale centre Masham hosts two weekly markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays located in and around the town's beautiful Georgian market square. Markets have been taking place in Masham since 1393 when its charter was granted by Richard II. The Saturday market was a recent addition to the weekly Wednesday market. Don’t miss Masham’s special Victorian Market in December!

Richmond

Richmond’s Saturday Outdoor Market is all year round in the town’s beautiful central Market Place. Stalls sell a variety of local Yorkshire Dales farm produce, crafts and toys. Indoor stalls in Market Hall are open Monday to Saturday, and every third Saturday of the month a farmers’ market is held in Market Place.

Reeth & Catterick

Reeth market day is weekly on Fridays, with outdoor market stalls located on the Green. Catterick Racecourse just off the A1 also hosts a famous large weekly Sunday Market.

Ripon

Cathedral city Ripon hosts a weekly market on its market square every Thursday around the 300 year old Obelisk.

Kirkby Lonsdale & Kirkby Stephen

Discover great traditional markets on the edge of the Dales. Kirkby Stephen holds its weekly market on Market Square every Monday from 7am to 6pm. Beautiful market town Kirkby Lonsdale which received its market charter in 1227 hosts its weekly market on a Thursday in the Georgian Square overlooked by the Royal Hotel. The first Thursday of each month is the regular slot for the farmers’ market.
