Canterbury Festival

One of the South East’s major international arts festivals, The Canterbury Festival fortnight takes place annually in mid October and is Kent’s largest arts and culture festival with over 200 free or ticketed events. Around 70,000 festival goers head to the Kent capital during festival fortnight and events regularly sell out so it’s well worth booking your event place and Canterbury accommodation early! The full festival programme is usually released around mid July and the main box office is at The Marlowe Theatre. The Autumn festival fortnight is a great time to visit Canterbury, with lots of free street entertainment and a carnival atmosphere with parade and fireworks also forming part of the event.

Food, Film & Children's Festival

Other great annual festivals in the city include the ‘monster of a festival’, Canterbury Children’s Festival at the end of May. Main venues are The Marlowe Theatre and The Beaney with a range of fun family free events, performances, activities and workshops going on across the late May half term weekender tailor-made for kids. Foodie fans won’t want to miss a visit to Kent’s annual local produce showcase, the Canterbury Food and Drink Festival in late September centred around Dane John Gardens near the Norman Castle. The city also hosts well established film festivals including the annual Kent Film Festival in late September based at Christchurch and Canterbury Anifest Short Film Festival across various host venues in late September/ early October.
