The Canterbury Tales - take the pilgrim's journey with live costumed guides at Canterbury's favourite family attraction

The Canterbury Tales is one of the city’s most popular attractions and a favourite with families, packed with the sights, sounds, scenes and mishaps of Chaucer’s medieval England. House within old St Margaret's Church, the attraction is the perfect ‘living history’ introduction to Chaucer and Canterbury for children and the onsite gift shop is one of Canterbury's best for medieval themed gifts, souvenirs, traditional meads, ales and more!

A Pilgrim’s Journey

Costumed live guides are on hand to amuse, entertain and inform throughout your adventure which begins at the Tabard Inn from where you’ll head off on your own pilgrimage from London to Canterbury meeting many a colourful character along the way. The story ends at Saint Thomas Becket’s shrine in Canterbury.

Themed Events

Some great themed events and special performances are organised by The Canterbury Tales annually such as outdoor theatre adaptations with a Chaucer link and fun family Medieval days in summer centred around the churchyard adjacent to the attraction. Look out for extra spooky themed events in Halloween season!

Getting there

The Canterbury Tales is open daily throughout the year except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Book tickets online for great discounts. Family ticket packages (2 adults/ 2 children) are also available. The attraction sits right in the heart of the city centre on St Margaret’s Street past Nason’s Department Store and just opposite HMV, within an easy stroll of Canterbury West and East stations.
