I'm not sure if taking a donkey ride along the beach counts as an outdoor activity, but there are plenty of activities to choose from. Weston's well stocked with plenty of parks and activity centres, but there’s also so much else to do. Why not try a golf break? Weston boasts two great courses of its own and there are many more in the local area. Or why not get involved in some nature related activities, walking, cycling, horse-riding and loads more? The Weston area also offers its visitors locations to try out dry skiing, go-karting and snowboarding. Often indoors, you can find places for outdoors activities too.
Taking boat trips and indulging in a wide selection of never-before-tried watersports are brilliant ways to unwind on your holiday. Kitesurfing, for example, is a great thing to try on holiday. During the Summer, UFO a local kite organisation will offer free sessions on the beach. They also offer kite hire.
Walking, whether with purpose or simply meandering, is a prime holiday activity for most of us. Weston-super-Mare has some gorgeous views within a close distance and fascinating history to explore. Some websites, such as the John Harris site below, offer downloadable maps to download and print - with walks ranging from the 1.5 mile pushchair friendly Axbridge Walk to the 5 mile Cheddar Gorge Walk or 6 mile Yatton walk.
The local council even produce a guide for those who are just getting back into taking physical activity - a guide and map for shorter walks. And there are also many more walks detailed on their site below - mainly coastal and beach walks - perfect in Weston. And I've also linked to a page called "Uphill Walks. A series of ten healthy walks around and about Uphill". Incorporating some interesting places such as the Old Toll Road, the Quarry and Boat Yard, these walks are good but not too challenging.
Or why not walk on Brean Down - a 100 metre high peninsula to the South West of Weston? Its steep limestone cliffs offer fabulous views over the Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary. Tropical birds, Victorian Brean Down Fort, gun station and superb views lie all around.
There are some great cycling trails in the Weston area - why not look at the cycling trails listed on Map My Ride? The rides are broken down by distance, elevation and lots more.
North Somerset Council also have created a downloadable map of Weston's cycle routes. See below for link.
