At the Crab House

Weymouth offers a real mix of dining options from best traditional seaside favourites like fresh from the catch fish & chips to some award-winning seafood restaurants and fine tearooms and cafes serving up delicious cream teas. One restaurant very popular with Weymouth diners is Il Porto on Hope Square. This Italian Bar and Kitchen at Brewers Quay is well situated (central for many of Weymouth's events), is full of chunky furniture reminiscent of its brewery location, and also hosts regular events - salsa nights, while-you-eat cabaret, and more. A sample menu includes platters to share, pasta, pizza, risotto and a main course menu of meat and fish dishes. Equally suitable for lunch and dinner dining, this friendly place is well worth a visit.

Whilst at the Quayside try The Stable with their live music and award winning pizzas and pies. Fascinating pie fillings include spicy lamb with chickpea and chorizo and the Dorset Oggie - spinach pumpkin and feta cheese. Or why not try The Dining Room on St Mary Street? Decorated simply in beautiful clean, white French style, this offers 'contemporary dining in a relaxed environment' with menu items such as 'Lime cured local fish, Weymouth chilli, red onion and coriander Ceviche' and a very special looking mixed grill.

Best Seafood & Local Produce

The Crab House Cafe on Ferryman's Way specialises in seafood and fish. Booking is essential in this unassuming seafront building with sun-swept outdoor dining. Offering such items as Turbot Steak poached in saffron cream with mussels, and a wonderful specials board, this is well worth a visit whether for their lunch menu or evening meals. A total joy for lovers of fish and seafood (especially crab and oysters), as well as those of us who enjoy a good cheeseboard or homemade desserts (toffee cheesecake with almond brittle and raspberry coulis sounds gorgeous). Or try Yalbury Cottage in Lower Bockhampton - a cosy, converted cottage with a lunchtime menu of English tapas, and wonderful evening menu. All meals are predominantly prepared from locally sourced produce, like Mustard and Herb Crusted Cannon of Tolpuddle Lamb.

Cream Teas and Fish & Chips

In and around Weymouth you'll find a wide choice of cafes and tearooms serving up delicious traditional Cream Tea. Head to the Downhouse Farm Garden Cafe between Eype and Seatown beaches (a cafe at a working farm) for fresh rhubarb crumble tart, Dorset cider cake and local clotted cream as well as a good selection of meal options. Or try one of the fish and chip outlets on the West Bay. Some, such as Nicky Tattershall's stall, serve seafood fresh off the boat - the crab is especially good.
