Beaulieu Tourist Information National Motor Museum - Beaulieu National Motor Museum - Beaulieu
Beaulieu is a historic village within the New Forest National Park set on the banks of the Beaulieu River. Today it makes a great holiday base from which to tour and explore The New Forest. The picture-postcard village has several cafes, independent boutiques, a bakery, delicatessen and quality accommodation. You'll often catch sight of ponies and donkeys outside local shops lining Beaulieu's single high street.
The village also has a charming hotel and pub, and a delightful Mill Pond flanked by Palace House, the resident home of Lord and Lady Montagu. The Beaulieu estate with abbey ruins (the abbey was destroyed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries) and the National Motor Museum are just a short stroll from the village centre. The history of Beaulieu stretches right back to when William the Conqueror first designated the New Forest as a royal hunting ground.
Beaulieu is a great southern gateway into The New Forest and within easy reach of the coast and Hythe ferry services to the Isle of Wight. The village is easily reached from Southampton via the A326 running down the eastern edge of the National Park or if you are coming from the north through the heart of the Forest, take the B3056 from Lyndhurst and the B3055 from Brockenhurst. The B3054 from Lymington is also a route up from the Solent Coast to the village. Beaulieu has its own station with regular train services running from Southampton and London.
Where to Stay
Around Beaulieu sit charming New Forest B&B Guest Houses including some great farmhouse B&Bs. A plentiful choice of character cottages are also available including some luxurious properties set within their own extensive grounds and featuring private swimming pools, gyms and spa baths. Fine old pubs with accommodation and classic heritage hotels with conference and wedding facilities can also be found in the Beaulieu area.
