Church and houses in Aberaeron

Aberaeron, on the West Wales coast between Aberystwyth and Cardigan, is sandwiched between two stretches of the Caredigion Heritage Coast. This picturesque Georgian port is a planned small township sometimes referred to as the "Jewel of Cardigan Bay".

What's Aberaeron like?

Now offering an eclectic and lively town centre full of independent shops, galleries and craft outlets, this Georgian port town began life as a fishing village which grew into an important trading port. Its wool, iron and farming industries left their mark on the architecture of the town - for example, the houses Llanerchaeron and 'Milford House' are beautiful reflections of wealthy times gone by.

Marine life and beaches

For a holiday by the sea, what better than surrounding yourself with all things marine!? Visit Aberaeron Sea Aquarium to view the life in Cardigan Bay waters, or visit the Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre. Or why not try a 'Coastal Voyage' to explore the coast or to scan for bottle nose dolphins or other marine mammals? Of it that's a bit too active, why not find our more about Cardigan Bay's Summer Seafood Festival?

Of course, the beaches round here are incredible: Aberporth, Penbryn, Poppit Sands, Tresaith, Llangrannog, New Quay and more. Most are stunning, sandy beaches, popular and with good facilities.

Get active!

Aberaeron and the whole Cardigan Bay region are ideally suited for fans of active breaks. Choose between dinghy sailing, yachting, power boating, wind surfing, canoeing, sea kayaking, surfing, walking, cycling and more! Fishing enthusiasts might like to take an organised safari for sea bass, or find a peaceful location for some coarse fishing. There's a Karting centre at Panteryrod and a family activity centre at Llain, and Aberaeron also has a nine-hole golf course suitable for all ages and abilities (they even launch hot air balloons from the course during holiday season!).

Something a bit different

For something a little different, the New Quay Honey Farm is worth a look and isn't far from Aberaeron.

Or why not simply walk along the harbour, over the headland and the secluded award-winning Mwnt beach, or visit the nearby fifteenth century Church of the Holy Cross?

Or you could even attend the annual August carnival or the Festival of Welsh Ponies & Cobs which, as a popular yearly festival, raises money for local charity through races, fancy dress, breed display and much more. See here for more information:
