The Eden Project

The Eden Project

South Cornwall is one of the region's most popular spots for family holidays, containing famous gardens like the Lost Gardens of Heligan and top UK attraction the Eden Project. The gentle beaches of St Austell Bay are a favourite with families, and the bay also features a string of pretty fishing villages like Mevagissey. The region has close links with the author Daphne du Maurier who adored the coastline around Fowey and lived in the area for many years. Fowey celebrates its links to this great popular author of famous novels made into films, including Rebecca, with an annual arts and literary festival.

Peninsula headlands like Roseland feature dramatic perched castles like St Mawes and at Cornwall's most southerly point sits spectacular coastal walking, hidden cove beaches and best diving around The Lizard Peninsula. Beyond The Lizard is the great sweeping St Mount's Bay, home to pretty fishing harbours like Porthleven and off shore island St Michael's Mount with medieval castle, gardens, shops restaurants and more.

The Lizard Coast

The Lizard Coast

Inland Cornish capital Truro is accessible by boat trip up the estuary from Falmouth and is a real Cornish centre for the arts, featuring The Royal Cornwall Museum housing some of Cornwall's greatest archaeological and fine art treasures. The region's largest entertainment venue - The Hall For Cornwall - is also here and dominating the centre is the beautiful Victorian Gothic revival Truro Cathedral.
