Dunfermline Abbey, Fife

Home to some of the world’s most famous golf courses, the Kingdom of Fife is the birthplace of golf with its St Andrews coastal golf links. The British Golf Museum is situated on the St Andrews seafront and across Fife you’ll find over 40 premier golf courses. With an interior featuring a wealth of ancient Royal burghs and heritage centres like Dunfermline, you’ll find more treasures around the Fife coast from picture-postcard fishing harbours and seafood centres to perched coastal castles and a choice of boat trips.

Easily accessed via airports at nearby Edinburgh and Dundee, the Fife region is a popular base for touring central Scotland, the capital and the Highlands, and for a small area of just 50 miles across, this ancient home of the Scottish monarchs packs in a variety of holidays experiences. The bustling southern area flanking the Forth is a landscape of world famous bridges, family attractions and some great beaches.

Take a tour of Scotland’s ancient capital Dunfermline awash with heritage abbeys, royal palaces, gardens and museums or head to the Queensbury waterfront for a view of the iconic Forth Road Bridge and the pioneering cantilever Forth Rail Bridge. The Fife interior features a selection of beautiful historic market towns and old settlements like Falkland with its ruined palace and the old market town of Cupar with its wonderful choice of traditional inns.

The still largely undiscovered East Neuk coastline pushing south of St Andrews towards Crail and Anstruther is a landscape of Blue Flag beaches, coastal castles, craft centres and fishing towns and villages. Visit the Scottish Fisheries Museum in Anstruther, a real national centre for Scottish fishing history featuring 19 historic boats and a selection of heritage fishing buildings, all in a spectacular harbourside location.
