Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival

The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival is usually held annually in mid-Spring. The Glenlivet Distillery Visitor Centre, in Dufftown on the Speyside Way, won the VisitScotland award for "Best Visitor Attraction 2013" for its contribution to Scottish tourism, but this distillery is only one of the festival’s participants in locations such as Buckie, Aviemore, Elgin, Forres, Grantown on Spey and Glenlivet itself.

The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival is held in the heart of the world’s most well-known whisky producing region (this area is home to more than half of the world’s distilleries), and gives the visitor insights into Scotland’s national drink. Some of the distilleries will open to the public for the very first time during this festival. Inspiring whisky fans from all over the world to visit, the Festival also marks the start of Whisky Month, organised in 2014 as part of Scotland's Year of Homecoming.

The Festival Chairman James Campbell says that “The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival is unique in offering visitors the chance to not only sample some of the best whiskies in the world but also learn about the passion and tradition that goes into producing them”.

The festival generally incorporates over 300 events in just a five day period. With a detailed and varied programme of events, including instruction, canoe tours and ‘drambles’ (rambles between distilleries), the event offers something for everyone, whether food and drink enthusiasts, holiday makers, or those keen on finding out more about the production processes involved in creating the world's best whisky.
