Glenlivet Distillery

The Glenlivet Distillery Visitor Centre, located in Dufftown, on the Speyside Way, won the VisitScotland award for "Best Visitor Attraction 2013" for its contribution to Scottish tourism. It attracts over 40,000 tourists each year and was refurbished for 2013 with a wide range of visitor improvements. Whisky enthusiasts and tourists flock into this area from all over the world, but especially from Japan, China, South America and Asia.

Visitor Centre and Tours

The Visitor Centre hosts a free exhibition giving insights into the history of the distillery which was actually the first distillery ever licensed in the Livet Valley, and which has now grown to be appreciated as home to one of the world’s favourite single malts. A variety of guided tours round the distillery are available, as is the option of purchasing and hand-filling a personalised bottle of eighteen year old malt. The free standard tours depart every twenty minutes and include a guided tour of the distillery, a visit to the bonded warehouses and a complimentary dram. The Spirit of the Malt exclusive tour costs somewhat more, at £30 per person, but lasts up to three hours and also incorporates a nosing of “seven different expressions” of The Glenlivet whisky and a dram from specially aged casks.

The Legacy Experience Tour

In addition, 2013 saw the beginnings of The Legacy Experience, a tour costing £60 per person which includes tastings of very old and rare The Glenlivet whiskies – some so rare that they have not even been bottled. The Legacy Experience tour also includes an exclusive gift.

Other Facilities

In addition to the whisky tours above, the Visitor Centre offers visitors the chance to dine at their coffee shop for light meals and snacks and to visit their gift shop filled with whisky and whisky-related gifts.

Unfortunately, the Visitor Centre experience is not suitable for under eighteens.
