Glasgow Art

Glasgow's biennial festival of visual art is held at a multitude of venues and locations within the city. The sheer scale of this event is breathtaking.

The event

Glasgow, being very well represented in the field of contemporary art, has plenty to offer both as the host city of this well established festival, and in terms of talented local contemporary artists themselves.

Including talks, exhibitions and performances by both Glasgow-based and international contemporary artists, the programme hosts over 50 exhibitions, with events at almost 50 venues across the city.

This showcase for contemporary art includes both events supported by the festival and others held to coincide with it. Venues and productions can be on the large and dramatic side – for example, Glaswegian Karla Black's 2014 enormous floor piece made of 16 tons of sawdust which is situated at the hall of the city's Gallery of Modern Art. There are also a great many more informal, diverse and intimate events at venues throughout the city.

More than 90% of the work on display will be new and specially created for the Festival, covering art forms you might expect, such as collage, ceramics, photography, installation and sculpture, but also many you might not think of, such as performance, film and stand up comedy.

Where to stay during the Festival of Visual Art

We can offer many forms of accommodation throughout the city and surrounding areas. Perhaps you might be looking for an apartment or hotel within the city centre, or you might wish to stay in the vibrant and bustling riverside area? Or perhaps you may even prefer a quieter holiday cottage a little further afield?

Whatever your preference, do ensure you book with us well in advance of this festival, whether you intend to stay for the entire fortnight or just for a few nights. Take a look at our inspiring listings below.
