JORVIK Viking Festival in York

JORVIK Viking Festival in York takes place annually in February. The Festival features special battle re-enactments, family events, guided walks and a range of Viking themed activities. Each year there's a specific theme such as 'Myths and Legends' and the packed programme includes everything from great Viking dinners to Viking Strongman Competitions and candle-lit performances of epic Anglo-Saxon poems.

The event is Europe’s largest Viking Festival attracting a huge international audience – around 40,000 annually - to Yorkshire’s famous ancient city of York which was ruled by the Vikings 1000 years ago and named JORVIK by the invaders. The festival usually ends with a big show featuring dazzling light and sound effects accompanying live battle action.

Viking Festival Location

The nine day festival is a city wide event in York centred around the JORVIK Viking Centre within The Coppergate Shopping Centre situated in the heart of York city centre (Postcode YO1 9WT). JORVIK is the site of the celebrated Coppergate Viking excavations first unearthed in the late 1970s. The Centre today is one of Britain’s most popular attractions.
