Lavenham Village

Famed as England's best preserved medieval village, Lavenham contains over 320 protected historic buildings which include many timber framed architectural gems. Lavenham was one of England's main centres for cloth making and wool from the 14th to the 16th century and was particularly famous for its blue broad cloth. The town is one of several historic wool towns and villages in West Suffolk and contains a beautiful selection of luxury B&Bs, historic inns, cottages and country house hotels.

Lavenham Guildhall

Lavenham Guildhall on Market Place is cared for by the National Trust and is one of the wool town's finest historic buildings built in 1529. Inside visitors can discover how these medieval timber-framed buildings were constructed and learn about the powerful medieval guilds who built them. Exhibits include displays on cloth working, the local railways around Lavenham and local agriculture. Children's trails and activities also feature.

Lavenham Tours

The National Trust offers guided walks around Lavenham's medieval centre taking in spectacular historic buildings like St Peter and St Paul church, one of the finest of the Suffolk wool churches. Find Lavenham Tourist Information on Lady Street where you can pick up leaflet guides, history books and information on guided tours. Close to the Lavenham Guildhall on Market Place is Little Hall, a beautifully restored 14th century timber-framed house open to the public which was the former home of clothiers the Causton family.

Art Galleries

Lavenham contains four wonderful art galleries including the exquisite Crooked House Gallery housed in one of Lavenham's medieval timber framed building. The Crooked House Gallery sells a range of beautiful craft jewellery, stained glass, ceramics, paintings and more.
