Bungay Buttercross

Bungay is another popular gateway into the Southern Broads and is situated just west of Beccles. A Georgian gem, Bungay contains a wealth of Georgian architecture such as the beautiful Buttercross in Market Place. Ancient sites are here too including the ruins of Bungay Castle, what remains of one of the Bigod's mighty castles in Suffolk.

This popular Suffolk market town alongside the River Waveney contains spectacular historic churches like Holy Trinity Church, the town's oldest building with Norman tower and the ornate St Edmund Church. A wide choice of pretty walks surround Bungay including the 10 mile Bigod Way accessed from the Bigod's Castle ruins. Cycling is also popular in the area along The Godric Way, a 24 mile cycle run running directly through Bungay. Canoe hire is also available from Outney Meadow Caravan Park in the town.
