Peterborough Cathedral & Heritage Festival

Peterborough Cathedral & Heritage Festival

Iconic landmark Peterborough Cathedral is one of Britain's great Norman cathedrals and is regularly voted one of the UK's top 10 landmark buildings. The cathedral is the burial place of two queens, Katharine of Aragon and Mary, Queen of Scots. Mary however was removed from Peterborough Cathedral to Westminster Abbey in London by order of her son James in 1612.

There are many spectacular architectural highlights on a tour including the medieval painted ceiling of the Nave dating from around 1230 to 1250 and the dazzling West Front. Peterborough Cathedral's medieval painted ceiling escaped Victorian restoration and is unique in that it is completely original! The Peterborough Heritage Festival with numerous craft stalls and family activities takes place annually in early July in the Minster Precincts overlooked by the West Front.

The Cathedral is open to the public daily and an exhibition features inside. Guided tours are available for groups and can be pre-booked. Tower Tours and Precinct Tours are available on select days - find out more on the Cathedral's website. A coffee shop and souvenir outlet are both onsite at the West End.
