Family friendly holiday parks in the Camelford area near the coast & moor

Camelford in North Cornwall is a picturesque small market town around 6 miles from the coast. It's ideally placed for family walking and cycling along the Camel Trail, award-winning beaches on the North Coast and for exploring Bodmin Moor. Famous Bodmin Moor hills topped by tors including Roughtor and Brown Willy sit just south east of the town. Nearby moorland Crowdy Reservoir is popular with birdwatchers and offers gentle walking around its bank. Shops and inns can be found in the lower part of Camelford and the town is a well connected local centre in North Cornwall, with daily bus services to Wadebridge, Bude, Launceston and to Bodmin and the moorland district.

As its name implies, Camelford sits close to a crossing point of a major river - the Camel - which rises around 4 kilometres north of the town A choice of family friendly holiday parks are in the area offering easy access to the coast and moor with onsite fishing lakes, swimming pools, games rooms and more. Many welcome dogs and they offer a variety of self-catering accommodation including luxury holiday lodges and static caravans.

Things to Do

Fine wine lovers won't want to miss a visit to the award-winning Camel Valley Vineyard with on-site wine shop and friendly tours including wine sipping tasters on the sun terrace. Camelford has fascinating links with Arthurian legend - some even think Camelford might be the original Camelot? Find out more at The Arthurian Centre in Slaughterbridge with legend and myth exhibition. Head off along the Camel Trail, a disused railway track open to walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The Copper Trail, a 60 mile circular walking route running around the edge of Bodmin Moor passes through Camelford and the South West Coast Path is within easy reach.

Visit the North Cornwall Museum in Camelford housed in a character building formerly used for storing coaches and wagons. The museum includes a reconstruction of a moorland village as it would have been at the turn of the century. Camelford also features the Cornwall at War Museum located at Davidstow Airfield. Airfield tours offer a fascinating insight into the history of RAF Davidstow Moor first opened in 1942 and closed after the war. Vintage aircraft, an air raid shelter and wartime shop display are just a few of the exhibits.
