Flag indicators on Newquay beaches

Flag indicators on Newquay beaches

Beach Safety & Coloured Flag Indicators

Most of Newquay beaches have a lifeguard service across the summer season and a coloured flag system is used as an indicator of beach safety:- Red and Yellow flags mark an area patrolled by lifeguards and tell you that this marked area is safe to swim, bodyboard or use inflatables in. Black and White chequered flags highlight a zone on the beach used by lifeguards for surfboards, kayaks or watercraft - no swimming is permitted in this zone. A red flag on the beach is the indicator for danger. Visitors should never enter the water whilst the red flag is up. Finally, an orange windsock indicates that there are offshore wind conditions and in these conditions you should never use an inflatable.

Holywell Bay - Dog Friendly

Holywell Bay sits on the western edge of Newquay beyond Fistral and Crantock beaches. Holywell is a year round dog friendly beach flanked by sand dunes. This beach has lifeguards from May to September.

Crantock Beach - Dog Friendly

Crantock Beach is a stunning golden sandy beach in Newquay located just west of Fistral. Popular with surfers, Crantock is great not just for surfing but also for sheltered bathing. A popular surfing pub sits close to the beach and all essential facilities are on-site making it a good option for families. Dogs are permitted on Crantock beach all year round.
