A boat trip from either Ilfracombe or Bideford to Lundy Island off the North Devon coast is one of the region's not to be missed experiences. This great granite outcrop is just 3 miles long and a half mile wide, and sits where the Atlantic meets the Bristol Channel. Evidence of prehistoric Bronze and Iron Age settlement has been unearthed here on one of Britain's great mythical off shore islands which is often shrouded in mists to great atmospheric effect. Never crowed even in peak summer season, Lundy is a peaceful oasis with its mild climate, epic Atlantic seascapes and network of walking trails. Climbing, diving, fishing, walking and birdwatching are all popular on the island - Lundy is brimming with wildlife and wildflowers and there are regular warden led events, walks and even snorkel safaris available.
