Exmoor is a special place with an inspiring landscape and home to Britain's oldest native breed of horse, the Exmoor Ponies. The highest sea cliffs on the UK mainland are along the Devon Exmoor coast around Combe Martin. The coastline also has the highest and the lowest tides in Europe and the longest wooded coastline. Exmoor covers 267 square miles of Devon and Somerset - 29% is in Devon and 71% in Somerset. National Park Visitor Centres in Devon are at Lynmouth (Lyndale Car Park) and an independent visitor centre is at Combe Martin.

Walking & Cycling

Exmoor National Park contains over 1000 km of bridleways and footpaths offering a range of scenic walking opportunities through woodlands, alongside rivers or through wild heather moorland. Guided walks available from National Park Centres are always a good starting point for first time visitors. Several popular long-distance trails feature in the park including the South West Coast Path, Britain's longest National Trail which begins on the Exmoor Coast and is at its most dramatic along the Devon Exmoor coast. Other popular trails include the inland 102 mile long Two Moors Way, the 30 mile Tarka Trail and the 45 mile long Exe Valley Way. Offering some of the best off roading challenges in Britain, Exmoor National Park contains a wide choice of colour coded cycle routes from easy Green routes to the most challenging Black routes. Exmoor is a regular host of the Tour of Britain road race and the park has is own circular Exmoor Cycle Route running for 60 miles around the park.

Activities

Activities in Exmoor are extensive, with horse riding, cycling and walking trails, fishing, canoeing, climbing and stargazing all popular in the park. National Park centres at Dulverton, Dunster and Lynmouth offer a wealth of useful maps and guides, as well as guided walks and tours. Independent tourist information points are also at Combe Martin, Lynton, Minehead and Porlock. Popular Devon National Park holiday bases are the coastal locations of Combe Martin, harbour village Lynmouth and cliff top Lynton. Exmoor is one of England's most popular National Parks for horse riding featuring over 300 miles of bridleways including the 33 mile long Coleridge Way pushing into Exmoor from the Quantocks. Great riding stables offering a choice of rides suitable for all are in Lynton on the Devon Exmoor Coast.
