The Eden Valley features three distinct areas including the moorland North Pennines around highest English village Alston, the lakes and mountains surrounding Ullswater and right in the middle the gentle River Eden flowing through the Eden Valley. The River Eden is renowned as one of the best for trout and salmon fishing. Stay in ancient market towns or opt for pretty village bases like Brough and Orton. The region is famed for its best local produce, fine Westmorland real ales and fantastic outdoor activities.

The area is a top spot in Cumbria for holidays with horses. Fishing opportunities are outstanding along the lower reaches of the River Eden which are rich in wild trout and grayling. Other top spots for fishing in the area include Ullswater and Hayeswater.
