Aysgarth Falls

Aysgarth is famed for its tumbling Falls, one of the great wonders of the Yorkshire Dales. The River Ure flows across limestone steps creating the much photographed three white water surges here. Incredibly popular with families, the Falls has an onsite Yorkshire Dales National Park Centre with cafe and onsite parking. During busy peak summer season when parking may be limited it's well worth getting to the Falls by regular DalesBus services running between Leyburn and Hawes, stopping at Aysgarth en-route.

Aysgarth village contains a charming selection of shops and two great pubs. Accommodation in the area includes welcoming inns with rooms and a choice of family cottages within easy reach of the Falls. Aysgarth is ideally situated for exploring the Dales, surrounded by popular Wensleydale attractions including Bolton Castle and the Wensleydale Creamery and Dales Countryside Museum in nearby Hawes. Closer to home visit the Aysgarth Rock garden, one of the Dales' most unusual listed attractions commissioned before the First World War.

Explore the ancient coppice woodland of Freeholders Woods surrounding Aysgarth Falls - the woodland is a designated nature reserve. The Falls natural wonder also features a huge flat area of shallow rocks popular for rockpooling and paddling. Take your pick of pretty woodland walks direct from Aysgarth village or head off along the riverside on scenic walks towards Askrigg and Bainbridge.
