Ulveston Town

Quirky market town Ulverston, on the Lakeland Peninsula, is famously the birthplace of one half of of the world's greatest comedy duos Laurel and Hardy.  Stan Laurel, alias Arthur Jefferson, was born in Ulverston in June 1890 and today this South Lakes market town pays homage to the great comedian at the fabulous Laurel & Hardy Museum situated within the historic 1920s Roxy Cinema in Ulverston centre, a visit which is not to be missed.

Ulverston is a delightfully bohemian market town with narrow cobbled streets featuring some superb independent books shops, antiques and collectables shops and a host of fine traditional inns and stylish cafes. Take a tour of the beautiful Victorian Market Hall with its choice of local produce and 'off the wall' collectables stalls or a scenic stroll up to Ulverston's iconic Sir John Barrow Monument atop of Hoad Hill, a replica of the Eddystone Lighthouse from which there are spectacular views towards Morecambe Bay and the Peninsula.

Visit Ulverston during one of the towns many festivals and events which include a popular annual walking festival, the celebrated Ulverston Lantern Festival and a selection of folk and music festivals and events. Ulverston is a popular holiday base located at the start of the Cumbria Way. Numerous local walks are direct from the town centre including pretty canal towpath walks along the Ulverston Canal.
