Brampton Town and Moot Hall

Brampton is Cumbria's pretty market town which is gateway on to Hadrian's Wall. It features a central Georgian Moot Hall, home to a tourist information centre and a collection of luxurious accommodation including historic country house spa hotels, charming B&B guest houses within their own grounds, pet friendly inns with rooms and wonderfully quirky self-catering cottages.

The town is perfectly placed for touring and Brampton station offers fast rail links to both Newcastle and Carlisle. It's close proximity to the A59 and M6 puts it within easy reach of a range of attractions and outdoor activities in the North Pennines AONB and Northumberland National Park and within easy driving distance of Gretna shopping, the Scottish Borders and Scotland's beautiful Southern Uplands.

Stay in a luxury Brampton spa hotel, guest house or cottage and you're perfectly placed for exploring World Heritage Site Hadrian's Wall and the ancient Roman Forts and priories along the Cumbrian stretch of the Wall. To the east of Brampton sits the mighty Birdoswald Roman Fort which is just within the Cumbrian boundary, here you'll see one of the most complete remains of any Roman fort along the Wall together with a breathtaking collection of Roman finds in the on-site visitor centre, and other facilities including a tea room, ample nearby parking and a picnic area.

Many visitors based in Brampton opt to walk to Birdoswald Roman Fort via the Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail which runs just north of the town or alternatively you can hop aboard the award-winning wheelchair and cycle friendly Hadrian's Wall Country Bus running between Brampton and Gisland, then on to other key Roman sites along the Wall. Augustinian monastery Lanercost Priory founded around 1169 which is still in use today also nestles close to Brampton and has parts of its original nave and foundations intact, plus monastery buildings and the great archway entrance.

Browse an exquisite selection of quality holiday cottage accommodation along Hadrian's Wall in and around Brampton or opt for a central Brampton traditional inn with rooms within easy reach of the Scottish borders. Search and book Brampton accommodation online.
