Located on the Teesdale border next to the river Tees, the village is just 10 miles east of the popular town of Barnard Castle. Renowned for its Roman heritage, Piercebridge itself dates back to around 70AD and boasts a Roman fort site - a well known ancient monument which forms part of the region's Dere Street Roman Trail. As a stop along both the Teesdale and Cleveland Ways, this village provides an excellent base from which walkers and cyclists can explore nearby Swaledale and Weardale. As well as the two main trails the are many bridleways, footpaths, cycle trails and lovely riverside walks to explore. Other local attractions include the magnificent Raby Castle in nearby Staindrop, the Bowes Museum, York's National Railway Museum, Durham Cathedral and the market town of Barnard Castle. The Lake District and Northumbrian National Park are also within reasonable driving distance.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?
