Dating back from the 11th century, Durham Castle is one of the colleges of Durham University, and is a part of Durham s World Heritage Site that can offer accommodation during University vacations.
We offer a wide variety of comfortable bedrooms, ranging from standard rooms with shared facilities to magnificent state rooms, which are available throughout the year. Rooms are equipped with standard amenities as well as free wifi, and are inclusive of a full English breakfast that is served in our medieval Great Hall. The College Undercroft bar is generally open most evenings, you only need to check at reception for opening times.
Having an excellent central location adjacent to Durham Cathedral in the centre of the city, you can either relax walking around the historic city or strolling along the nearby banks of River Wear. The Castle, located on Palace Green, is also just across from the City s iconic Norman Cathedral. In addition to this, at anytime during your stay, you are welcome to join one of our public guided tours on a complimentary basis.
Once you have arrived in Durham City, it is easy to locate and reach Durham Castle. We are approximately 15 minutes walk from the railway station this will take you through the city centre and up towards our location on Palace Green where the Cathedral is also located. Whilst there are no designated cycle lanes through town, cycling is permitted and there are bike storage facilities once you get to University College. See the Durham University map and select University College from the drop down list.
