Welcome to No. 2 Precentor's Court in York. Furnished to an exception standard throughout, our charming 18th century townhouse offers luxury accommodation which is set over three floors and situated just a short walk from local restaurants, shops, cafes and historic attractions.
Quirky artwork adorns the walls in the beautiful lounge and there is plenty of comfortable seating. For film buffs, there is a high definition TV with Netflex and the focal point of the lounge is the beautiful original fireplace. A vintage dining area can be found in the spacious kitchen and there is a downstairs cellar with laundry for guests. There is also a tiled hallway with coat hooks and an illuminated tourist information cupboard.
Guests will also find a large red book entitled 'The Knowledge' in the dining area which has been specially compiled to ensure guests have the best experience of York during their stay.
All of our bedrooms enjoy wonderful views over the Minster and adjacent Dean's Gardens. Bedrooms one and two are set on the middle floor and have original fireplaces, wooden floors, king sized beds, antique furnishings and George III chairs. Each also has a gilded trumpet chandelier, hand loomed woolen rug, bed side tables, luggage racks, hair dryers, towels and high quality linen. The house bathroom is also set on the middle floor and has a bath with shower, hand basin, WC and heated towel rail.
Bedroom three is set in the eaves on the house and has a painted wooden floor with rug, rare antique walnut knee-hole dresser with shield mirror, Metropolitan Line luggage rack and boxing hare head. Bedroom four can also be found on the top floor and has a single wooden sleigh bed, extra folding single bed, walk in wardrobe, original fireplace and painted wooden floor. There is a second small but perfectly formed wet room with electric shower on this floor.
Guests can enjoy relaxing in the attractive courtyard garden. We also provide a free parking permit for a local car park which is a five minute walk away.
The property is almost 300 years old and retains wonderful period features throughout including non working fireplaces and low ceilings. Fully adjustable cast iron column radiators are fitted in every room.
We are highly rated on TripAdvisor with all our reviews rating the property as 'excellent'. The property has also been inspected and selected as Sawday's 'Special Place' and have been featured in '25 Beautiful Homes' magazine.
A three night minimum stay applies for mid week breaks and a minimum two night stay is required at weekends.
Please note that although children are welcome, young children under the age of four will require a high level of supervision on the stairs, in the kitchen and by open windows. Due to the two sets of winding stairs which access the upper floors, the property may also not be suitable for guests with mobility problems.
The property is set just yards from York Minster, right in the heart of the historic city centre.
Take the outer ring road (A1237) to the north of the city and then take the A19 south into the city centre. At Bootham Bar follow the road round to the right, past the Theatre Royal on the left, and turn sharp left at the traffic lights and proceed down Duncombe Place. Head straight towards the Minster, turn left directly in front of the West Door. In front of you will be two sets of large iron gates and Precentor’s Court is to the left of these – No.2 has a light blue door.
