A quaint and unique pretty painted thatched cottage, (now under tin to preserve the thatch), set on a working farm in a quiet corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park and perfect for a romantic get-away or for a family holiday. Why not relax and unwind in the secluded hot tub after exploring the hills of the Fforest Fawr (The Great Forest is now treeless with fantastic waterfalls and caves hidden among the hills). There are sheep filled meadows and footpaths leading straight from the cottage door and the owners are happy to share their local knowledge or show visitors around the farm.
When we visited the cottage our first impression was "Ooh how pretty" with the front path leading up to a red painted front door under a red tin roof (to protect the very rare rush thatch beneath). This could be straight out of a picture book and once inside the cottage it really makes your heart melt. The first thing is the surprising spaceinside and the visitors book is full of glowing comments about the friendliness of the owners and the delights of staying here. The farm is three miles from Ystradgynlais.
This cosy cottage has a light and the contemporary feel complimenting the original stone flags, oak cruck beams, oak panelling and the original steep ladder steps that lead to the bedrooms. (Visitors should be aware these steep steps before booking if elderly or infirm.) The charming kitchen is a lovely space with traditional Belfast sink and antique pine hanging shelves matched with stylish freestanding units and modern appliances including an electric cooker, microwave, Belfast sink, a fridge and freezer, washer and dryer. A welcome pack will be waiting on the antique pine dining table when visitors arrive. In the evenings the comfy sofas and chairs have traditional Welsh blankets to 'cwtch up' around the woodburing stove. There is a generous supply of wood provided and and a good supply of games and books.
Downstairs shower room (this has underfloor heating to make sure it is always warm). There is a shower, hand basin and toilet.
Up very steep ladder stairs to the two bedrooms, again deceptively spacious from the outside with a large landing area with a sofa, a DVD and a Play Station. There is a stairgate at the top of the ladder stairs.
The Master bedroom: Has a double bed.
Bedroom 2: With twin beds
At the back of the cottage there is the Hot Tub. This really is a lovely place to be able to relax and not be overlooked.
The farm is reached down a very long lane, only 40 minutes to The Gower Peninsula and 40 minutes to Brecon, so an ideal place to stay for both the Beach and the Mountains. This busy working farm runs to 230 acres of land with sheep and cattle but does not encroach on the cottage grounds.
