About this Accommodation

The Plough Hotel sits in the picturesque village of Scalby, just outside Scarborough on the North Yorkshire coast and is the perfect gateway to the majestic North York Moors and the National Park with its stunning dales and moorland walks.

The Plough has been at the heart of Scalby village since 1899 and has recently undergone a major refurbishment, transforming the building inside and out providing the perfect place for a spot of lunch, a delicious dinner and a drink or two as well as a unique and stunning stopover retreat, offering eight luxury en-suite bedrooms.

Rest your head in one of our luxury bedrooms at The Plough, with hand made four poster beds available. All of the bedrooms are stylishly decorated for ultimate comfort.

All of the bedrooms have an en- suite bathroom facilities attached.


Why not enjoy a meal at our fantastic restaurant, with an extensive menu created by James Mackenzie, of The Pipe and Glass Inn. Head Chef Jon Smith  and his talented team only the finest local and regional ingredients to produce great British food with a modern twist. Lighter options are also available, with alternative tapas-style plates and sandwiches and a children's menu.

On- street parking is available in Scalby Village, however we please ask that guests don't block the driveways of residents. Free WiFi access available.

Around and About

The quaint village of Scalby is the ideal place for a tranquil getaway, with plenty of scenic walking routes, dramatic coastline and activities, such as clay pigeon shooting and fishing.

Further afield, the seaside town of Scarborough is popular with holidaymakers all year round, with an abundance of attractions, shops and restaurants.

Put your best walking boots on and explore the nearby North York Moors and coastline, or catch a show at The Stephen Joseph Theatre of The Scarborough Open Air Theatre.


From Scarborough: Follow the A64 into Scarborough then the A171 towards Whitby. Follow the road and you will pass the hospital on your left, continue along the A171 into Newby and then Scalby. As you enter Scalby village over the bridge take the second left turn onto High Street, we are 85 yards on the left hand side.

From Whitby: Head along the A171 towards Scarborough once you reach Scalby village, take your third right hand turn onto High Street, we are 100 yards on the left hand side.
