Set in one of forty designated 'Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty,' this truly one of a kind manor house is one of the largest properties in the area, and is the perfect accommodation for a large group of up to 18 friends and family to enjoy the luxurious, period furnishings and decorations and explore the vast 20 acres surrounding the property.
The interior of Melmerby Hall is truly breathtaking, and consists of a period drawing room, oak- panelled gentleman's library, spacious dining room with an enormous open fire salvaged from a local castle, billiards room, large family living room, large kitchen, cloakroom, larder room, utility room, boot room and a a sandstone terrace with built- in barbecue, which can be accessed by the French doors from the family living room.
The kitchen is fitted with an oil fired four oven Aga, gas hob and additional oven, microwave, two american fridge/freezers, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. There is also an LCD TV, DVD player and ipod docking system in the living room of the property.
There is an impressive 9 bedrooms at Melmerby Hall, all of them with an en- suite bathroom. There are in total 7 double bedrooms throughout the second and third floors, with the bed sizes as follows: 5'6, 5', 4'8, 5', 5', 5' and 4'6. There is also a twin room with 2 3' beds, and a nursery room, also with 2 3' twin beds. All of these twin beds can be converted into double beds upon request. There is a separate shower room, in addition to the en- suites.
The grounds to the property are accessed through an arched gateway at the edge of the local village. The well maintained grounds span 20 acres, and include an archery lawn, walled vegetable gardens, picnic area and a stone barbecue by the stream. There is also a Victorian castle folly at the edge of the garden, which has now been converted into a children's play area. Croquet equipment and shooting can be arranged prior to arrival (please contact the office.)
Strictly no smoking. A maximum of 2 well behaved dogs are welcome, however please do not allow them on any of the upper floors, or on the furniture. Free WiFi, however the speed and service will depend on the package obtained by the owner.
There is also a free swimming voucher programme, which guests have access to. This is at the Tower House indoor pool in the nearby village of Melmerby, which has a resistant current lap lane, sauna, hot tub and showers.
The village of Melmerby is just a short walk away, and it home to the award- winning organic bakery Egon Ronay, which serves great meals and coffee. Also popular with locals is The Shepherds Inn at Langwathby, with has good food reviews. The manor house is surrounded by historic stately homes and gardens, such as Dalemain House and Gardens, Hutton-in-the-Forest and Appleby Castle, as well as the Settle Carlisle Railway- covering 70 miles of tracks- which runs several times a day.
For guests interested in organised outdoor activities, the Howtown Outdoor Centre at Ullswater offers qualified and experienced instructors for a range of sports, such as rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing and sailing.
