About The Kingfisher

One of a collection of luxury holiday properties set on a peaceful hillside, The Kingfisher is an award winning 5 Star property ideal for couples and small families.  This luxury chalet sits in an elevated position on The Estate and has arguably one of the finest views from a self-catering property in Scotland.  Relax on the private veranda and take in the beautiful views across to Loch Dochart and the glen, or in the comfortable open plan living area with modern entertainment facilities provided including full Sky TV package and unlimited WiFi. 

Short breaks, weekly stays and long-lets are available all year round and this award-winning Highlands Estate includes free loch and river fishing and free use of Canadian canoes and boats.  Find location information, guides and maps, along with fresh locally sourced organic meat produce on sale in the onsite visitor centre.

Living Space

  • Spacious open plan living area with a leather sofa, matching armchair, additional chaise longue, dining area seating six and a large 37" flat screen TV with full Sky HD service.
  • A Blu Ray DVD player, Nintendo Wii and free Wi-Fi unlimited connection are also inclusive.
  • The brand new galley style kitchen is fitted with Bosch and Siemens appliances such as a Bosch double oven, a Siemens larder fridge/ freezer, a built in Bosch microwave and dishwasher, ceramic hob and wine cooler.
  • Small appliances include a food processor, sandwich toaster, Senseo coffee machine and toaster. We have also provided Royal Doulton crockery, cutlery, glasses, cooking utensils, pot and pans.

Bedrooms / Bathrooms

  • King-size double bedroom with afitted wardrobe, drawers, hair dryer, alarm clock, bedside lighting and an en-suite shower with a power shower.
  • Twin bedroom with 2 single beds.
  • Bathrobes included.
  • Separate bathroom with an extra long and deep bath.
  • Bathrooms are fed by a Mega flow hot water system which provides plenty of hot water.


  • Furnished decked veranda accessed from the open plan living area with scenic views over surrounding mountains and the loch.
  • There is also a Weber barbecue and a fully automatic extractable canopy.

  • Egyptian cotton bed linen, towels, tea towels, an oven glove, a bath mat and luxury Arran Aromatic toiletries included.

Around and About

Set in the beautiful northern reaches of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, The Kingfisher is the perfect base for a romantic Scottish break, walking holiday, fishing weekend or a climbing trip.  The wide choice of local outdoor activities is extensive.  Over 40 munros are within a 10 mile radius of Portnellan, and horse riding, golfing, watersports, open water swimming, birdwatching and geocaching are all easily accessed locally.  The Visitor centre is well stocked with local guides and information.


Crianlarich railway station offers a regular direct service to Oban, Fort William and Glasgow including the famous Caledonian overnight sleeper that runs from London Euston direct to Crianlarich nightly.

Ferry travel from Ijmuiden in Holland direct to Newcastle with a drive of approximately 3 hours will bring you to the doorstop of Portnellan, and with direct flights in abundance from most European airports to either Edinburgh or Glasgow there is an easy way to reach your Highland hideaway.

From the South follow the M74 to Glasgow, then the M9.  Follow signs for Stirling.  Stay on the M9 until you see signs for A84, Crianlarich. Junction 10.  Continue on the A84 until it joins the A85 at Lochearnhead, and stay on the A85, following signs for Crianlarich.  The A85 takes you to Portnellan about two miles before Crianlarich. The estate will be on your left, and is signposted.

From Edinburgh leave the city by the M9 and follow signs for Stirling.  Stay on the M9 until you see signs for the A84, Crianlarich. Junction 10.  Continue on the A84 until it joins the A85 at Lochearnhead, and stay on the A85, following signs for Crianlarich.  The A85 takes you to Portnellan about two miles before Crianlarich.  The estate will be on your left, and is signposted. (Journey time:- 120 minutes).

From Glasgow leave the city westbound on the M8, following signs for Glasgow Airport and after that the Erskine Bridge.  Follow signs for Dumbarton and then stay on the A82 tourist route as it meanders up Loch Lomondside.  At Tarbet, turn right towards Crianlarich, and continue following the loch.  Stay on this road through Ardlui until you enter Crianlarich village.  At the T-junction turn right towards the village centre and Stirling, and follow this road (A85) about two miles out of the village.  Portnellan is on the right and is signposted.  (Journey time: 90 minutes).
