Stunning Balebarn Lodge is our flagship ecolodge at award-winning Wheatland Farm in North Devon. The lodge is a creatively refashioned cow shed featuring unique upcycled furniture and design touches. The building is ultra-low carbon - (the straw bale insulation came from just three fields away, hence the name Balebarn!), and has a host of energy saving features and uses only renewable energy!
The ecolodge is super stylish with a contemporary woodburner. It sits in a great location on the farm overlooking a large wildlife pond and with uninterrupted views. Facilities and things to do onsite are extensive. Paddle a boat on the wildlife pond, fish on our smaller pond, take a free guided walk around our 7 acre nature reserve or borrow our free pedal bikes (or hire two adult electric bikes) and explore Devon's lanes. Cycling trails are nearby, and a farm shop selling a range of Devon Local Produce is just up the road on a neighbouring farm.
A fantastic luxury ecolodge overlooking a wildlife pond with unique upcycled features and cosy woodburner. Sleeps 8 (or combine with Otter Cottage to sleep 12)
Kids adore our acres of space at Wheatland Farm and there's lots to do and see for families. Collect the odd egg or two from our friendly hens, borrow free bikes (always a big hit with children), take the boat out on the pond or build a den in the nature reserve. Wheatland Farm offers the chance for an 'Enid Blyton or Arthur Ransome style' holiday they won't forget.
Balebarn ecolodge is available all year round and teams well with Otter Cottage for group breaks. Short breaks are also offered all year round - except during a six week period in the summer school holidays.
We will email detailed directions to you on booking - these give directions from the M5 at Tiverton, and via Eggesford, as well as from the A30 East and West, via Widdon Down and North Tawton. Wheatland Farm Ecolodges and Cottage sit just outside the pretty Saxon village of Winkleigh. From Winkleigh village, take the A3124 north, continue past the recreation ground on your right. When the road swings hard left you need to take the right hand turning and look for the signpost for Chulmleigh.
After about half a mile you will see Fiona's farm shop just to your left. The farm is on the right, about half a mile on from the farm shop. Continue on down the track passing our next door neighbour's bungalow and the car park for the ecolodges. Where the drive forks, turn right down the hill into the old farmyard. Collect your keys from the white farmhouse. Our backdoor is up a short side passage on your left and through a small conservatory.
