Beachfront Shore Cottage is spectacularly situated next to a private beach within the traditional Scottish Arbigland Estate just south of Dumfries in South West Scotland The estate is a magical mixed landscape of woodland, farmland and foreshore flanking the beautiful Solway Firth coast. Magnificent views from the cottage look across to the Solway Firth and the Lake District mountains beyond. The Arbigland estate is within the Nith Estuary Special Area of Conservation and the Upper Solway Special Site of Scientific Interest.
Activities near the cottage include birdwatching and wildlife watching, river and sea fishing, first class golf courses, family farm parks, award-winning beaches, walking and cycling. Shore Cottage is one of a selection of charming cottages and lodges within the estate, available all year round to book individually or in conjunction with other properties for larger groups. Wedding parties, corporate groups, film crews, activity groups and large family group bookings are all warmly welcomed.
Our beautiful estate on the Solway Firth foreshore is tailor-made for special events, filming and corporate gatherings. We are just a stone's throw from Gretna Green - couples can marry in the iconic Old Blacksmith's Forge at nearby Gretna and come along with their wedding party and stay in our estate cottages. Arbigland is perfect for that special romantic honeymoon.
We have hosted many corporate training and entertainment events. A choice of activities including great golf are nearby. Film crews are also warmly welcomed. Shore Cottage is available to book all year round. Short breaks (minimum 2 night stays) are available off peak. Dumfries & Galloway is a superb destination for activity breaks. Golden sandy beaches line the surrounding Colvend coast, and local activities cater for all tastes. Birdwatching, ancient castles and abbeys, family farm parks, watersports and fishing are all nearby. Galloway golf courses close to the Estate include Southerness Golf Course, one of the world's finest coastal links courses. Fishing, cycling in nearby Galloway Forest Park and many walking opportunities are also available locally. Dumfries, famously associated with the poet Robert Burns, sits just north of the Estate and artist's town Kirkcudbright is just to the west. Caerlaverock Castle, Mabie Forest and New Abbey are all right on our doorstep.
To Shore Cottage and our Estate Office from Dumfries, the North, South and the East:-
On reaching Kirkbean on the A710, take a left into the village, then take a right beside the kirk, following clear signs for Arbigland and Paul Jones Cottage.
Continue along the same road for around 1 mile moving out of the village, you'll then go up a hill - take the second left hand turn signposted Canabony and the House on the Shore. You will then be inside the Estate - please drive carefully and slowly. Carry on past Canabony farm, then down a slope and around a right bend.
Take the next left turn beside a cedar tree just at the back of our big house signposted the House on the Shore and Shore Cottage. Carry on down the drive - and remember to hoot as you go around the steep bend, and you've arrived. We look forward to welcoming you. Parking for up to 3 cars is adjacent to the cottage.
