About this Property

The Stable Cottages, which are in a U-shaped block originally date from the 15th century and have recently been converted to five spacious delightful holiday cottages, together sleeping 30 people in the five cottages, which are set around the old Stable Yard. Each of the five cottages named after the local resident Birds of Prey in the area (Kite Stable Cottage, Kestrel Farmhouse, Merlin Stable Cottage, Hobby Stable Cottage )has been cleverly designed with a separate entrance and can be completely private if wished or can also be used together for a large group with one of the larger properties having room for the whole party to eat together. Until recently they have been in use as stables and farm buildings thus giving the conversion a new lease of life.

The two single bedrooms have four foot wide small double beds.

The kitchen is spacious and well fitted with an electric cooker and hob, fridge and a freezer, microwave, dishwasher and a washer/dryer. The dining table will comfortably seat six visitors. A large living room with patio doors with lovely views, comfortable sofas and chairs and  Freesat TV.

  • History

The Cynghordy Hall and Stables until the late 19th century was a Dower House on the Glan Bran Estate whose principal house was three miles away between Cynghordy and Llandovery in wild and beautiful Mid Wales.  The larger house was demolished in the 1930's. Cynghordy Hall Farm now has 350 acres and has been with the Lloyd Family since 1917.

The "Cefn" flock of North Country Cheviot sheep graze the fields around the Stables - the lambs are kept and sold for breeding and meat production. On the hill farm three miles up the valley there is a small flock of Scotch Blackface sheep.  Visitors are invited to walk through the fields and up the Cynnant hill without a dog or through the woods with a dog. If the sheep are in the farm building or are in pens, you are welcome to come and watch and, depending on the task, perhaps help.

Ideal for all kinds of outdoor activities

The area around the farm is ideal for all kinds of outdoor activities including of course walking and mountain biking with the many bike trails through the forests. There is fishing - to be discussed with the owner and horse riding and pony trekking is available locally.  This is a perfect place for bird watching - the owner is a keen ornithologist and I am sure would be very willing to make suggestions as to where to see various birds.  Again this is a lovely location for photography with good light and beautiful landscape and views.

    Plenty to see and do

This area of Mid Wales is excellent for all types of outdoor pursuits with probably Mountain Biking being one of the most popular with the Trails - Coed Trallwmn Mountain Bike and Visitor Centre, The Gap Mountain Bike Trail, Brechfa - three purpose built trails, the Elan Valley Trails, and in Llanwrtyd Wells where they hold The Man Versus Horse race and Bog Snorkelling! There is a Land Rover course and Quad Biking on a nearby farm.  As well as several nearby Pony Trekking centres, the Roman Gold Mine at Dolaucothi is nearby.

Llandovery is 5 miles. Llanwrtyd Wells 7 miles. Llangammach Wells 9 miles. Llandeilo 18 miles. Builth Wells approximately 18 miles on a straight road so a good base for all the events at The Royal Welsh Show Ground.

The closest shops and pubs are in either Llandovery or Llanwrtyd Wells. The Cardigan Coast is an hours drive - so an easy day visit.

Have a look at Lucy's blog post for a photographer's perspective of this beautiful cottage.
