The Hillthwaite, in the heart of the Lake District National Park, is just half a mile from the stunning shores of Lake Windermere between the quaint lake shore villages of Windermere and Bowness. Our hotel sits in an elevated position and offers panoramic views over England’s largest lake and the surrounding mountain ranges.
We have ground floor bedrooms, a disabled toilet and disabled parking with a ramp in to the hotel.
We offer 33 bedrooms, a warm welcome and the highest standard of service, with facilities including beautifully landscaped gardens and an outdoor terrace, a relaxing guest lounge and award-winning locally sourced cuisine.
We offer a range of rooms with stunning views of Lake Windermere and the surrounding mountains and countryside. Our rooms range from cosy singles and doubles to superior and luxury rooms with magnificent and unique views. All rooms are immaculately presented with TVs, tea/ coffee making facilities, hair dryers and telephones.
There is internet access throughout all rooms and some also feature deluxe Jacuzzi baths in our classic rooms. For extra comfort, book our premium room which offers additional complimentary items such as slippers, robes, wine and daily newspapers. The luxury suite has an additional balcony with extensive views of the lake and scenery and a feature fireplace. The en suite bathroom offers mood lighting, a walk in shower and a TV.
Breakfast is served from 8am until 10am daily and offers a delicious buffet and main course selection. The buffet offers fresh fruit salad, orange or apple juice, Earl Grey prunes, continental breads, croissants, pastries, cereals, tea or coffee and Anne Forshaw's natural yoghurt.
The main courses include A Hillthwaite full Cumbrian breakfast, eggs Benedict/ Royale, Hillthwaite breakfast brioche bap, scrambled South Lakeland free range eggs on a toasty granary bloomer, grilled natural smoked haddock and eggy bread with natural yoghurt and berry compote.
We offer a four course dinner menu which is sourced mainly from local produce. We are able to cater for any dietary needs, just let us know when booking. Our lounge and bar area offers a comfortable place to relax in front of an open fire after a long day. Or you could sit in our conservatory and take in the breathtaking views.
We have a small pool, sauna and steam room to relax in after a long day walking or hiking. We also provide towels for swimming in the pool.
Enjoy the ever changing Lakeland scenery from our outdoor terrace/ gardens or impressive restaurant with large bay windows.
We also offer free WiFi throughout all bedrooms and in the downstairs public areas. Please note that bedrooms allocated may be in the annexe building next door to the main building, attached by covering walkway. Children are welcome at Hillthwaite but we have a limited number of family rooms with extra bed space and we require prior arrangements for extra bed requests. Children under 2 years stay for free and cot hire is £5.50 per night, children between 2 and 7 years are an additional cost of £12.75 per night and ages between 8 and 14 are £38.50 per night.
Hillthwaite is a magnificent venue for a wedding, we offer a range of magical wedding packages for large events of up to 50 people which are made all the more unforgettable by our idyllic and romantic location. We are fully licensed to hold civil ceremonies and wedding receptions.
Minimum stay of 3 nights on Bank Holidays. There may be a minimum stay of 2 nights for Fridays and Saturdays - please enquire.
Try some of the beautiful natural walks straight from the doorstep or travel further afield to the famous peaks of Helvellyn, Scafell Pike and Skiddaw. From traditional county shows to music festivals, local culture and outdoor sports, there are a range of activities on offer for everyone to enjoy.
Buses and trains stop at Windermere train station where there are plenty of taxis available to bring you to the hotel. We can arrange a taxi to pick you up from the station with prior arrangement.
A car ferry at Ferry Nab connects on the east shore of Lake Windermere with Ferry House, Far Sawrey on the west, the ferry is popular during the summer months and is a drive on drive off service. If you’re travelling in by car, the Lakes (specifically Windermere) are very well signposted from the motorway and A roads.
