The Malt Scoop began life in the 1700s as a farm, it was then converted in the 1800s to accommodate a coaching inn. It remained this way for over a century and the lease was eventually taken over by the previous landlady's grandfather in 1906. All throughout that period the inn served passing travelling and the locals, most of which were probably employed by Clinton Devon Estates.
The inn is conveniently located on the A386 within easy reach of Great Torrington and Okehampton.
