The Old Bakehouse, Grade II Listed, enjoys an enviable position in Dittisham, this ever popular waterside village on the beautiful River Dart in South Devon. The cottage, recently refurbished, has superb views over the water from its spacious and attractive garden, verandah and orchard. This enchanting village, once a traditional fishing village, nestles on a bend of the tidal river. Eight miles downstream from Totnes and 3 miles upstream from Dartmouth, it is now a relaxing holiday location with two pubs, a very good café and post office/shop and a haven for those who love messing about in boats. Here space is hard to come by and the Old Bakehouse provides it in abundance with plenty of parking and wide spacious enclosed gardens. This is a top spot for children in the summer holidays with crabbing from the pontoon, plenty of space, a lovely garden but equally it is a peaceful and tranquil place for those who simply enjoy sitting in the garden and watching the boats sail by. A short stroll down the lane leads to The Ferry Boat Inn, a popular waterside pub.

Accommodation:

Entrance into hallway from the verandah and into the sitting room, which is furnished with three large sofas, Freeview TV with DVD and French door to the verandah. Play area off the hall with table and large toy box. In the kitchen a fine old range sits in a wall of the dining area that has a table to seat 8. The kitchen area is fitted with smart shaker style units, Range-master cooker with 5 ring halogen hob, double ovens and grill, dishwasher, built-in microwave, larder and large American style fridge/freezer with ice maker and under-floor heating. Cloakroom with WC and hand basin. Ground floor shower room with large shower, basin and WC. Utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. Comfortably furnished 'winter' sitting room with Freeview TV, dual aspect with feature fireplace housing a wood  burning stove. A further unique room has period features including original beams, flagstone floor and open fireplace with bread oven and is provided with a large table, one armchair and games table incorporating table tennis and pool - a great hideaway for children. Stairs to the landing. Attractive double bedroom with 5ft bed and lovely river views. Single bedroom with 3ft bed and a triple bedroom with three 3ft beds, cot and decorative fireplace. Family bathroom with bath, basin and WC. From the verandah beyond the sitting room there is a delightful new separate self contained suite with 3ft twin zip linked beds and its own en-suite shower room with basin and WC and a lounge area that looks across the garden to the beautiful views of the river.

Outside:

Lawns extend on to a large level area with wonderful views and a lower level is planted with Dittisham plum trees. The covered verandah is provided with a picnic bench, ideal for al fresco dining while enjoying the view, whatever the weather.

Parking:

Gravelled driveway with ample parking in front of twin garages, one of which is used for storing the garden furniture.

  • Local Facilities:  Beach at Blackpool Sands 6 miles. Estuary, quayside and passenger ferry to Dartmouth at the bottom of the road. Waterside café and pub a short walk. Shop/Post Office and pub 500 yards. Golf at Dartmouth Golf and Country Club 4 miles. Boat hire facilities in the village.
  • Please Note: The property has a number of different levels with single steps up and down to parts of the cottage on the ground floor.
