About this Country House Bed & Breakfast

Barton Hall Country House Bed & Breakfast is a charming Queen Anne House in the Lake District, just a few minutes' walk from Lake Ullswater and Pooley Bridge village which has a selection of shops and a post office.  The house is set within 3.5 acres of secluded grounds featuring a croquet lawn and ample space for children's play.  Excellent restaurants and inns are within easy driving distance, and beautifully presented guest rooms are available on either a B&B or self-catering basis.  A guest kitchen is also available for preparing simple snacks and meals.

The location is perfect for walking and touring the Lake District.  Penrith's West Coast Main Line station is just 4.5 miles away and the house is only a short distance from the shores of Ullswater and boat trips on the lake.  Exclusive parties and celebrations are welcome, and Barton Hall is family friendly with great value rates available for children under 10 years sharing with 2 adults.  Well trained dogs are also welcome if not left unattended, and Barton Hall is a perfect romantic escape with four poster bedrooms and a stunning rural setting.  Please feel free to call us for more information or to book a stay.

Guest Rooms

  • All rooms at Barton Hall are spacious, comfortable and elegant, with a double bed and one or two single beds, making them a convenient choice for romantic stays or for small families.
  • We've included an LCD TV in each of our bedrooms.
  • Some of our rooms have lavish four-poster beds perfect for a truly restful stay.
  • We're proud to provide accommodation that's suitable for any occasion, with facilities for exclusive parties and celebrations.

Breakfast Included or Self-catering

You'll enjoy a tasty freshly cooked breakfast in our dining room which has a beautiful chandelier.

Our rooms are also available on a self-catered basis and we provide use of a small, shared kitchen so you can prepare your own sandwiches and basic meals during your stay.

Other Facilities

  • An elegant beautifully furnished Drawing Room is available to guests with a TV, sumptuous seating and a cosy fire.
  • Relax and enjoy the extensive garden area - the house is set within 3.5 acres of secluded grounds with plenty of space to rest and relax, or to enjoy a game of croquet.

Children are welcome and under tens are charged just £10 when sharing with 2 adults.  Single occupancy is also welcome, charged at three quarters of our full double price.

A cot can be made available for £6 per night.  Please call to discuss any individual requirements - we'll do our best to ensure a relaxing and memorable stay.

Pet Friendly

We welcome friendly, house-trained dogs for a fee of £5 per night, though we ask that pets are not left unattended.

Around and About

The house sits close to the northern end of Lake Ullswater, the Lake District's second largest lake, where you'll enjoy opportunities for boat trips and for fishing.  Amenities and a Visitor Information Point are nearby in Pooley Bridge, and Ullswater Steamers boat trips depart regularly from Pooley Bridge Pier.  Nearby attractions include one of the North West's most beautiful stately homes and gardens - Dalemain House & Garden which hosts regular festivals and events.

Barton Hall is on the B5320 about half a mile from Pooley Bridge and Ullswater, and 5 miles from Penrith.  Penrith is located at the junction of the M6 and the A66, and the main railway line between London and Glasgow.
