A luxury country house Bed & Breakfast offering the warmest of welcomes, Wooden Cabbage sits in a stunning West Dorset Valley just north west of Dorchester and south of Sherborne. Bridport is a mere 12 miles away. Our accommodation, like our name, is unique. Wooden Cabbage is a local word for 'stunted oak trees' prevalent in the area.
The B&B is in a wonderfully peaceful location down a long private drive - spectacular views can be seen from the house. Many of our guests pause along the drive on arrival to admire the views! The garden with feature thatched folly is the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of tea, where you'll often spot deer grazing in our fields in the evening. Breakfasts are served in our beautiful garden room, where there are also sofas to relax in. Plenty of safe parking.
Three stunning guest bedrooms are available, each with their own individual charm and furnished with antiques and lovely paintings. Our five course gourmet breakfasts are extra special, always appreciated and praised by our guests. Breakfasts are served in the delightful setting of our flower filled garden room, and in the colder months beside the AGA in the winter breakfast room.
A varied locally sourced menu includes fruit juice to start, fresh fruit plate, home-made cereals and yoghurt, followed by a hearty home-cooked English breakfast made with locally sourced Dorset bacon, free range pork sausages from Bridport and fresh farm eggs from Beaminster. Toast with homemade marmalade and jam follows, accompanied by a choice of teas and coffee.
Optional evening dinner is served 2 evenings each week. We have wonderful local Dorset produce at our fingertips, and our seasonal menus are locally sourced. Fruits, herbs and vegetables often come from our own kitchen garden.
Discount room rates apply for 3 night bookings or more. Single occupancy is welcome in all rooms. Groups are welcome and we can offer a private sitting with a log fire which is situated at one end of the garden room. Breakfast is served on a long oak table so your group can dine together and we also offer dinner some evenings for groups of six people. There is plenty of outdoor seating where guests can relax.
The Bed and Breakfast is only two and a half miles off the A37, taking the Closworth/Halstock turning. Our drive entrance is on the right, 200 metres past the turn to Halstock - go over the cattle grid and down the private drive. Ample parking is onsite.
