About these Apartments

Offering spacious accommodation perfect for larger families and groups in the heart of York, Stakesby Holiday Flats are three apartments sleeping 2 to 12 within a beautifully appointed large Victorian house.  The property sits in a peaceful residential area only a 10 minute stroll from the medieval city walls and the city's southern entrance at Micklegate Bar.  Pubs, shops, restaurants and amenities are all nearby, and Stakesby is ideally close to York Racecourse and the National Railway Museum.  Fast, regular bus links into the city centre are only a 2 minute walk away, and these fully equipped apartments come with free fibre optic WiFi broadband (available 24 hours) and free on-street parking adjacent.

Group Bookings

The three spacious apartments are available to book individually, or together to accommodate very large groups of up to 36 guests, perfect for wedding parties, celebrations, stag and hen groups, corporate bookings and school parties.

Flat 1 on the first floor and Flat 2 just upstairs are also ideal for large groups of up to 20 guests when booked together.

Flat 1

  • Spacious first floor flat - sleeps up to 12 guests.
  • Large fully equipped rooms perfect for groups.
  • 3 double beds and 4 single beds across two bedrooms.
  • Ample space for extra guest beds if required.
  • Lounge with full sized double futon, 40" TV, CD player, comfy seating and a dining table seating 8 (can be extended to seat 16).
  • Fully fitted kitchen/ diner with a 4 ring gas cooker - oven, grill, kettle, toaster, microwave, 2 fridges and a freezer.  All necessary kitchen accessories - pots, pans and crockery are provided.
  • Bathroom with a bath and 2 thermostatic showers.
  • Two wcs (1 is separate from the bathroom).
  • Pets welcome by arrangement.

Flat 2

  • A cosier flat on the second floor - sleeps up to 8 guests.
  • Private front door and entrance hallway.
  • Two double/ family bedrooms both with a double bed and 2 single beds (perfect for couples, families and for groups).
  • Bedrooms are large with full sized beds.
  • Space for 2 additional guest beds if required.
  • Lounge with a TV, DVD, a dining table seating 6 guests and ample comfortable seating.
  • Well equipped fitted kitchen/ diner with a 4 ring gas cooker, oven and grill, a kettle, toaster, microwave and a fridge with an ice compartment.  All necessary kitchen cutlery, glasses, pans and pots for up to 8 guests are provided.
  • Bathroom with a bath, wc and a shower cubicle.
  • Pets welcome by arrangement.

Bishopfields Garden Flat (Ground Floor/ Wheelchair Accessible)

  • Stylish refurbished ground floor flat with an AA 4 Star and a National Accessible Scheme rating - sleeps groups of 12+.
  • Perfect accommodation for wheelchair users travelling with friends, family or carers - no raised edges or steps.  Living space is all on one level and access is via a ramp (gradient 1:12) from the driveway.  Free parking is within 10 metres of your private front door access.
  • Ideal for large groups - sorry no children or pets please.
  • This flat is separate from the rest of the house with its own private access from the driveway and a patio area.
  • Three bedrooms and a lounge with a full sized futon which can be used as a fourth bedroom.
  • Master bedroom with en-suite shower.
  • Ample space for extra guest beds if required.
  • Quiet private patio and garden area with gas BBQ.
  • Lounge/ dining room with a widescreen TV, DVD, video, iPod dock, CD and comfortable seating.
  • Dining tables - one seating 8 guests and an additional dining table with 4 chairs.
  • Well equipped fitted kitchen with a dishwasher, 4 ring gas cooker/ oven and a grill, kettle, toaster, microwave and all essential crockery, pots, pans and accessories.
  • Bathroom with a wet floor style shower and a wc.
  • Bath with shower over, wc.

Short breaks available (midweek and weekends) - minimum 2 night stays and weekly bookings are welcome.  Check-in is after 2pm (4pm Sundays and Mondays).  Check-out is by 12 noon (2pm Sundays and Mondays). 

We are happy to accept midweek bookings for smaller numbers and it is usually possible to offer significant discounts for longer term bookings.

  • City walls and Micklegate Bar - 10 minute walk.
  • Adjacent to Knavesmire - York's famous racecourse.
  • York railway station - 10 minute walk.
  • Bus stop - 2 minute walk.


The flats are situated on the south side of the city, easily accessed off the A1(M) and M1 motorways.  Take the exit off the A64 ring road signposted York West (A1036).  Continue following signs for the city centre, past York Racecourse to your right, then left onto Saint George's Place - Stakesby Holiday Flats are just on the right.

"I booked Stakesby Holiday Flats for a friend’s Hen Party from the initial enquiry which was helpful, efficient and easy to contact and ask questions.  All straightforward and easy to book.  With varying budgets for 8 of us to stay in the wonderful annex it had everything we required. And at a price that’s suitable for all.  Even for the hard to please, they couldn’t find fault.  Clean and comfortable – plenty of space for 8 women to get ready. No easy feat. 

A lounge area we could all sit comfortably and relax.  (There is also another part to the house for larger groups.) But the Annex is perfect!!  Really set the mood for an enjoyable weekend.  Even an outside area that if the weather had been a little nicer we could have enjoyed more.  Not too far from the town centre, easy to take a steady walk, plenty of buses and not too far for a taxi.  We couldn’t have asked for more.

Also the Tour De Yorkshire was in town so accommodation was busy and expensive for the 2 nights we required, and some place refused to take groups. (Especially Hen parties).  I would highly recommend for groups as you are all together (can only speak for the annex) rather than in a hotel, if you can even get in the same accommodation.  The girls who visited all said they would love to make an annual event with Stakesby House as the venue!!!!  So, I suggest you try to beat us to it.  Highly Recommended!!!!!".  Claire Durkin - Thursday 7th of January 2016.

I booked Bishopfields Garden Flat at Stakesby, St Georges Place, for my elderly relatives as we were going to a big family wedding. They stayed there for 4 nights and were extremely comfortable. This basement flat has 3 large bedrooms, a walk in shower with bath and w.c.  It has a patio area with furniture and barbecue which unfortunately they did not have time to enjoy!
