About this Cottage

Long walks, quiet nights, starlit skies, rolling hills, a rippling stream, a wraparound landscape, cattle ruminating and sheep grazing. If you can tear yourself away from all that, other treats can be found nearby to this detached eco-house, including canals and world heritage aqueducts, steam train trips, historic towns, castles and houses. There are also sheepdog trials, pony trekking, rivers and waterfalls, moorland hikes, a local pub and, at the end of the day, a deep peaceful sleep in wide, low Japanese-style beds. Erw Nant, ‘The House by the Stream’, was once a tiny Welsh longhouse, enlarged and updated by its architect owner into an uncluttered, contemporary house, with an abundance of light, air and generous spaces to make your own. Its spacious, open-plan living and dining area has hardwood floors, comfortable furniture and opens onto a terrace overlooking the surrounding fields. It has a well-equipped kitchen and four double bedrooms (good for family or group holidays), two of which have en-suite bathrooms opening directly onto the gardens. There is a downstairs family bathroom and a utility with sink and washing machine. The surrounding, lovingly cared-for gardens are on a sheltered, south-facing slope, perfect for daydreaming, reading and recharging batteries. An air sourced heat pump (warm in winter, cool in summer) provides the heating, supplemented in winter by a huge, Swedish, wood-burning stove and underfloor heating in the bathrooms. The Green Scheme Eco rating is achieved with PV panels on the roof. Shop and post office in Glynceiriog and Pontfadog 2 miles, pub 1/2 mile.
