Nestled among lush countryside in an idyllic location, Glan Wye is a homely barn conversion offering an ideal base to explore the delights on offer in the surrounding area. Rhayader lies in the very heart of Wales, situated 700ft above sea level in the beautiful Upper Wye Valley, and is sheltered by the Cambrian Mountains and cupped by hills rising to over 1500ft. Rhyader is also the first town of the River Wye, and the river is renowned as being the canoeing capital of Europe. Water has always played an important role in the town, and today it is known for the spectacular beauty of the flooded Elan Valley, where Victorian engineers created a series of magnificent dams and reservoirs as a water supply for the city of Birmingham, some 70 miles away. It’s truly a walker’s haven with The Wye Valley Trail running alongside the property and splendid cycling opportunities are available. The area is home to the majestic red kite, and with a bird feeding station within walking distance, it can be a popular sight. Guests are welcome to roam the owner’s 270-acre farm. Excellent fishing, riding and golfing can all be found locally. Today, the population of the local villages and countryside surrounding Rhayader is only a fraction of what it used to be a couple of hundred years ago, but the village communities are still very strong, with a variety of rural shows and events throughout the year. The larger spa town of Llandrindodd Wells is within an easy drive. Shops ½ mile.
