The Moorcock Inn at Garsdale Head lies at the tip of Wensleydale, in the heart of some of the most beautiful walking country in England. Just a stones throw from Garsdale station we are an ideal stop off from the trains which travel along the celebrated Settle to Carlisle railway. Standing alone on the A684 we also offer a welcome break if travelling from the Yorkshire Dales to the Lake District and then beyond into Scotland. Indeed whether you are looking for a couple of local brews to break your journey, or if you are looking for a place to rest and recharge whilst walking some of the famous routes which pass our doors we always offer a warm and friendly welcome.
At the Moorcock we have combined an eclectic mix of old world charm and quirky decor in the bar where locals and tourists alike sit chatting by the roaring log fire. As for our food, everything is home made and as far as possible locally sourced. Our meat is from Brown's butchers at Kirkby Stephen, our cheeses from the Wensleydale Creamery, our eggs from local farms and our fruit and vegetables from a grocer in Appleby. We offer light snacks and bar meals at lunchtime followed by our 'old favourites' traditional menu in the evening which runs alongside an a la carte menu which changes weekly. Our bar is a haven for real ale/spirit lovers alike, we have 4 cask ales some permenant and some guest, examples being Copper Dragon, Black Sheep, Theakstons, Tirril Brewery & Wensleydale Brewery and upon our bar shelves we house over 50 liquers & spirits and over 50 malt whiskies. Whatever type of break you are looking for and whatever the weather, our welcoming bar with comfy chairs around the fire is irresistable on those cold rainy days and our beer garden with beautiful views down the Mallerstang valley is an idyllic place to while away the hours on warm sunny days.
Our three stylishly decorated en suite bedrooms offer a contrast to the charming rusticity of downstairs, whilst still remaining relaxing and comfortable. A double, a twin and a family room (which sleeps up to four) are now available, all with en-suite showers, tea/coffee making facilities and free sat television. Named after the dale which they each overlook the morning view will be enough to tempt any walker.
Dogs are very welcome at the Moorcock and if wanting to stay overnight, pets are welcome in our family and twin rooms, however our double room is reserved for those without pets. Children are also happily welcomed into our Inn, we have a range of colouring books and board games to keep them occupied as well as a menu designed for them containing the usual offerings alongside some healthier home made options. We are biker friendly and we are also situated on certain cyclist routes and have secure areas where bicycles can be stored. The campsite at the farm just across the field also means that those wanting to pitch up and then eat and drink can do so very easily. Special offers are available for mid week breaks during the winter months and for longer stays during the summer period, please enquire when booking.
