About Viver Water Mill Bed and Breakfast

A spectacular 13th Century converted water mill, Viver Water Mill Bed & Breakfast near Milnthorpe is easily accessed just off the M6 and makes the perfect gateway into the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, the Peninsula and Silverdale.  Host owners Ian and Dianne offer the warmest of welcomes, personal service and unique character accommodation set within 1.5 acres of beautiful mature gardens with a mill pond, orchard and operational water wheel.  We're the perfect choice for business, leisure and travel stopovers, and you can book your stay by phone.


Retaining the wonderful traditional character of the heritage mill throughout, our B&B is packed with character features including an original oak grain sack hoist and pulley with mill stone.  Other wonderful features include our rare triple crook roof construction and oak and cedar beams reclaimed from old ships once docked at Milnthorpe port. 

We offer a choice of two character double rooms both with complimentary fine toiletries and tea/ coffee making facilities. 

  • Bedroom 1 - a king-size double with an en-suite shower and country views.
  • Bedroom 2 - a double bedroom with garden views and a private bathroom.

Breakfast/ Evening Meals/ Cream Teas

Locally sourced breakfast is a real treat and included in booking, served daily in the dining room or al fresco style on warmer days out on the patio overlooking the mill pond.

Optional evening meals/supper and delicious cream teas are happily served on request.

Around and About

Viver Water Mill is the perfect southern gateway into the Lake District, easily accessed off the M6 and just a short distance from Grange-over-Sands, Kendal and Windermere.  Host Dianne will happily recommend local attractions and places to visit. 

The B&B sits close to spectacular historic houses, castles, acclaimed art galleries and beautiful nature sancturies including the Elizabethan Levens Hall, award-winning Holker Hall, the National Trust's Sizergh Castle and Gardens, Leighton Moss Bird Sanctuary and Abbot Hall Art Gallery.


  • Exit the M6 at Junction 36, and take the exit signed for Kirkby Lonsdale/ A65 Skipton.
  • At the mini roundabout take the first exit which is signposted Crookland/ Endmoor - A65.
  • Carry on passing a Texaco garage.
  • After about 600m just opposite the Crooklands hotel take a left signed for Milnthorpe - B6385.
  • Cross over the Canal Bridge and stay to the right.
  • After about 700m continue over the dual carriageway.
  • Take a right at the crossroads beside Woodland Nurseries - follow signs for Heversham for 2 miles.
  • The road will gradually become a narrower lane.
  • Carry on over the hump-back bridge and climb up along the road under a railway bridge.
  • When you reach a hairpin bend with a house and garage adjacent - just beyond the house take a right onto White Lane.
  • Continue for 300m then at the cross roads take a right signed for Stainton.
  • After another 300m, you will see Viver Mill just on your right.  Please enter through our gate with a mill stone in the wall.
