About The Black Bull Inn & Hotel

A warm and welcoming 400 year old coaching inn, The Black Bull Inn and Hotel at Coniston village sits adjacent to a beck at the foot of Coniston Old Man.  Perfect for walking breaks, as a year round romantic retreat or family activity holiday, the inn has a range of room types including en-suite rooms and dogs are welcome for a small extra fee.  We have our very own microbrewery onsite where we brew our own cask conditioned beers including Bluebird Bitter and Old Man Ale using local mountain water.  Guests can enjoy our fine ales along with fresh locally sourced food served daily in the bar and dining room from 12 noon until 9pm.

  • 15 en-suite rooms all with flat-screen TVs, en-suites with a bath or shower, tea and coffee making facilities and very comfortable beds.
  • Four en-suite rooms are located within Forge Bridge House next to the inn - formerly where the stage coaches were housed.  One ground floor room has French windows opening out onto a riverside patio.
  • Twin, double and king-size double, triple, family rooms and four poster rooms. (single occupancy welcome dependent on availability).

Food & Drink

A true Lakeland Inn, the Black Bull has a charming traditional bar area with a roaring open fire, character slate flooring and large dining tables ideal for group dining and meals for two.  Hearty home-cooked food is served daily, accompanied by our famous cask Real Ales brewed on our premises including Bluebird Bitter, Old Man Ale and our winter warmer - Blacksmiths Ale.  An extensive choice of malt whiskies and real ciders are also available.  The bar is open 7 days a week, 10am to 11am.
